"Doing Business in the Strip" focus of Changing Exhibits
The Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center is featuring a fun and interesting changing exhibit for 2014 called Doing Business in the Strip. The exhibit features various early business machines and promotional items used through the years in Enid. From settlement Enid has been the center of commerce and culture for northwest Oklahoma. A few of the businesses represented in the exhibit are Asfahl Dresses, a popular manufacturer of children’s clothes, First National Bank of Enid which closed in the 1980s and West Side Feed. "There is a great history of commerce in the area. In a time before the internet, WalMart and overnight delivery, most business was performed locally," said David Kennedy, Curator of Collections. Each year the Heritage center has a new theme for the changing cases in the permanent exhibit gallery. Past exhibits have featured weather and medicine in the Cherokee Strip. The business exhibit will be on display through the end of the year.
The Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center is located at 507 S. Fourth St. in Enid, Oklahoma and is open Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. For additional information on this or other CSRHC exhibits, visit the website at www.csrhc.org.
