Historical Society of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma Awarded Oklahoma Heritage Preservation Grant

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma Historical Society (OHS) is proud to announce that the Historical Society of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma has been awarded a grant through the Oklahoma Heritage Preservation Grant Program.

“I am very pleased the Historical Society of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma has been awarded a grant to support their Civics Education Program,” said Sen. Kay Floyd, Oklahoma City. “This initiative is key to fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of our civic duties and heritage among Oklahomans.”

The Historical Society of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma received $20,000 for a project that will support phase one of the Civics Education Program, enhancing understanding of the Rule of Law and delivering impactful civics education. The project will involve research into technology, curriculum development, and engagement strategies, leading to the implementation of a revitalized program with measurable success in the quality and quantity of education initiatives.

“The Board of Directors of the Historical Society of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma expresses its profound appreciation to the Oklahoma Historical Society for its generous grant,” said Honorable Ralph Thompson, U.S. District Judge, Ret. and Chairman of the Board. “The funds will significantly enhance our Historical Society’s dual mission of preserving and presenting the rich history of the Court and to its Federal Judicial Learning Center and Museum’s role in teaching the judicial system and rule of law to Oklahomans of all ages.”

The OHS will distribute over $520,000 in grant funds, with projects ranging from collections care and strategic planning to exhibit development and educational programming.

“Through the Oklahoma Heritage Preservation Grant Program, we’re not just funding projects; we’re investing in the preservation of Oklahoma’s rich and dynamic history,” said Nicole Harvey, director of strategic initiatives for the Oklahoma Historical Society. “These grants empower communities across the state to uphold their heritage for future generations, ensuring that the stories of Oklahoma continue to inspire and educate for years to come.”
