More Than a Game: Coaches of Oklahoma exhibit opens

December 7

Event Navigation

From youth leagues and high school teams to collegiate athletics, professional sports, and Olympic competition, coaches have played an important role in Oklahoma’s sports history. More than a Game: Coaches of Oklahoma explores their impact as teachers, mentors, leaders, and community builders whose influence extends far beyond wins and championships.

Opening on Monday, December 7, in the Sam Noble Gallery at the Oklahoma History Center Museum, the exhibition complements the museum’s Oklahoma Sports Heroes exhibit and draws heavily from the recently donated collection of the Oklahoma Sports Heritage Museum. Through objects, photographs, oral histories, and stories from across the state, visitors will discover how generations of coaches have shaped athletes, built programs, strengthened communities, and helped define sports in Oklahoma.

Barry Switzer embraces a football player, a girl steps up to bat, a special Olympian runs track, and a Basketball Coach addresses his team.
