Event Navigation

The Oklahoma Territorial Museum and Carnegie Library has postponed the presentation “A Tale of Two Runs,” previously scheduled for Saturday, June 14. No future date for the event has been determined.

On Saturday, June 14, at 1 p.m., the Oklahoma Territorial Museum and Carnegie Library will host a program on the Cherokee Outlet Opening.

Guest speaker Madison Wilson, education director at the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center, will present a talk entitled “A Tale of Two Runs: The First and The Biggest.“ This event will explore the history of the Cherokee Outlet Opening in 1893 and provide context and information on the differences between the 1889 and 1893 land runs. A question-and-answer session will follow her presentation.

Tens of thousands of individuals participated in the Cherokee Outlet Opening on September 16, 1893. It was Oklahoma’s fourth and largest land run.

This is the first of two programs in a series. The second will be held at the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center in Enid at a later date. It will feature the topic of the Land Run of 1889, the first land run in what eventually became the state of Oklahoma.

This program is included with paid admission to the Oklahoma Territorial Museum, which is located at 406 E. Oklahoma Ave. in Guthrie. For more information, please call 405-282-1889.
