On Saturdays, May 2, 9, and 16, from 10 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4 p.m., the Fort Gibson Historic Site staff will host a come-and-go living history program to discuss the different types of soldiers who served at the military outpost. With the outbreak of the Mexican-American War, the regular enlisted soldiers at Fort Gibson were ordered to depart and march to Mexico, leaving the fort manned by a new group of Arkansans: Arkansas volunteers.
