Contributed by Carole Garner
P.E.O., founded January, 1869, by seven students at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, is a philanthropic organization where women celebrate the advancement of women, educate women through scholarships, grants, awards, loans, and stewardship of Cottey College; and motivate women to achieve their highest aspirations.
The Yukon chapter, founded 1996, is one of 187 chapters in Oklahoma. As of 2012 the International P.E.O. membership was approaching half million. The five programs that provide educational assistance by this sisterhood are: P.E.O. Educational Loan Fund, P.E.O. International Peace Scholarship Fund, P.E.O. Program for Continuing Education, P.E.O. Scholar Awards and P.E.O. STAR Scholarship.

In 2012 the Oklahoma Historical Society invited those who purchased one of the monogrammed bricks paving the Red River Journey at the Oklahoma History Center to share about the person or group their brick honors. Below is a list of those who submitted stories and the message shown on their brick. Use the links below to read the contributed story.
This project was made possible by a generous donation from Catherine B. Wootten.
