Monogrammed Brick Stories

Brick: Jones, David Lloyd

Contributed by Karen Gregory

David Lloyd Jones (1922–2007) was born in Newport Mon, Wales, but came to American through Ellis Island at 12 months old. His parents were Bert and Florence Jones. He lived in North Carolina and Texas before his father came to Oklahoma to be a preacher in Idabel. He married Barbara Anne Bettis in 1942 in Joplin, Missouri, and together they had three children and later were blessed with two wonderful grandchildren. Together they built a very successful business that lasted 40 years. The greatest joy for him throughout his life was his family and friends. Many hours were spent at the lake on the why not and following OU football through the decades. Also, he was very proud to be a naturalized citizen of the United States and loved being an Oklahoman.

In 2012 the Oklahoma Historical Society invited those who purchased one of the monogrammed bricks paving the Red River Journey at the Oklahoma History Center to share about the person or group their brick honors. Below is a list of those who submitted stories and the message shown on their brick. Use the links below to read the contributed story.
