Both Rick and Jean's maternal and paternal families have been here since pre-statehood. Their families have been involved in land runs, have been recipients of Indian allotments, and have come over on the Trail of Tears.

In 2012 the Oklahoma Historical Society invited those who purchased one of the monogrammed bricks paving the Red River Journey at the Oklahoma History Center to share about the person or group their brick honors.
