Brick: SW Oklahoma Genealogy Society

Contributed by Roberta Hooper

Southwest Oklahoma Genealogical Society was established in 1976 for the purpose of preserving genealogical and historical materials of Oklahoma, with emphasis on the southwest area, and to build a legacy for future generations. The society is located in Lawton (Comanche County), OK, and covers the counties of Beckham, Caddo, Comanche, Cotton, Grady, Greer, Harmon, Jackson, Jefferson, Kiowa, Stephens, Tillman and Washita.
The Family History Room collection, held in the Lawton Public Library, consists of over 20,000 books and periodicals; 150,000 microfiche, and 6,000 rolls of microfilm. The area of emphasis is Oklahoma and the major migration areas from where its people and their ancestors came.

In 2012 the Oklahoma Historical Society invited those who purchased one of the monogrammed bricks paving the Red River Journey at the Oklahoma History Center to share about the person or group their brick honors. Below is a list of those who submitted stories and the message shown on their brick. Use the links below to read the contributed story.
