Monogrammed Brick Stories
Brick: Short, John E., Rhonda F.
Contributed by Rhonda F. Short - combined two of her submissions
John Short's grandfather filed a claim in 1888 in Delhi Flats close to Sayre. His mother was born there in 1893. In 1902 the family moved to Mangum. John grew up in Mangum and served in WWII in Patton's 3rd Army at the Battle of the Bulge. Rhonda's grandfather filed a claim on the main fork of the Red River in 1899. Rhonda submitted information on Greer County, OK she discovered searching for the birth location of her mother-in-law, Margaret Malinda Johnson Short b. 1893. Margaret was born in TX, went into political limbo in 1896 (Okla. Territory) and became OK in 1907. She hadn't moved at all. The information Rhonda submitted is filed in OHS vertical files under Greer County.

In 2012 the Oklahoma Historical Society invited those who purchased one of the monogrammed bricks paving the Red River Journey at the Oklahoma History Center to share about the person or group their brick honors. Below is a list of those who submitted stories and the message shown on their brick. Use the links below to read the contributed story.
