Brick: Mullendore, Newton, Ida
Contributed by Walter Mullendore
Newton Mullendore was born in a dugout near Wellston, OK, in 1899. Ida (Lohmann) Mullendore was born at Brenham, TX, in 1899. Her family moved to a farm south of Wellston in 1907. Newton and Ida were married in 1919 and farmed near Wellston where their ten children were born. Their farm was the farm that Ida's father had purchased in 1907. The farm has been owned by family members for over 100 years. Their ten children were Rosy May, Delbert, Melvin, Elmer, Albert, Eugene, Jim, Ruth, Walter , and Bernese. They had 27 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. Both Newton and Ida died in 1984 and are buried in the Wellston Cemetery.

In 2012 the Oklahoma Historical Society invited those who purchased one of the monogrammed bricks paving the Red River Journey at the Oklahoma History Center to share about the person or group their brick honors. Below is a list of those who submitted stories and the message shown on their brick. Use the links below to read the contributed story.
This project was made possible by a generous donation from Catherine B. Wootten.
