Contributed by Carolyn McCoy
William F. Kerr was the city editor for the Lawton State Democrat 1903–08, managing editor of the Daily Oklahoman, 1908–1910; owner and editor of the Western Oil News in Ringling, Oklahoma, in 1915; founder, manager and director of the Industrial Survey in 1918; and editor for the Oklahoma Publishing Company in 1918. In 1922, Kerr and Ina Gainer published The Story of Oklahoma City. Later, Kerr worked as a correspondent for the Oil and Gas Journal and again for the Daily Oklahoman as a political writer. After William suffered a debilitating illness Frances went to work for the Oklahoma Tax Commission and also provided a news-clipping service.

In 2012 the Oklahoma Historical Society invited those who purchased one of the monogrammed bricks paving the Red River Journey at the Oklahoma History Center to share about the person or group their brick honors. Below is a list of those who submitted stories and the message shown on their brick. Use the links below to read the contributed story.
This project was made possible by a generous donation from Catherine B. Wootten.
