Monogrammed Brick Stories
Brick: Cooley, Frances, Howard
Contributed by Ruth Ellen Cooley Edger
My father, Howard Cooley, was born May 21, 1915, on a farm near Kaw City, Oklahoma. He was the son of Douglas Cooley, who emigrated to OK before statehood to pursue his dream of becoming a cowboy, and Hannah, daughter of a German farm family. My mother, Frances Cooley, was born April 8, 1916, in Ardmore, OK. Her mother, Elsie Adams McLean, emigrated to Oklahoma Territory with her parents who opened a store in Chandler. Her father, Frank O. Mclean, was also of Chandler from a family originally from Pennsylvania.

In 2012 the Oklahoma Historical Society invited those who purchased one of the monogrammed bricks paving the Red River Journey at the Oklahoma History Center to share about the person or group their brick honors. Below is a list of those who submitted stories and the message shown on their brick. Use the links below to read the contributed story.
This project was made possible by a generous donation from Catherine B. Wootten.
