OHS Board of Directors

Jeffrey Tanenhaus

Elected
District 1, Tulsa
Term expiring 2028

Tourism entrepreneur and author Jeffrey Tanenhaus is the founder of walking tour companies in Tulsa, OKC, and Norman. AARP named his Tulsa Art Deco tour one of the top 10 walking tours in the nation. Tanenhaus brings history to life by discussing topics such as the settlement of Indian Territory, development of oil fields, rise and destruction of Greenwood, inspiration behind Art Deco, impetus behind the Pei Plan, and origins of Sooner football. Flagship company Tulsa Tours has hosted more than 12,000 guests since its start in 2019. On the centennial of the first International Petroleum Exposition, Tanenhaus curated the Oil Capital Pop-Up Museum. This exhibit traced Tulsa’s oil heritage from Glenn Pool to the Golden Driller. He also serves as a trustee for the Oklahoma City Foundation for Architecture.

Tanenhaus graduated from Dartmouth with a double degree in geography and political science. Although born in Manhattan, he now proudly calls Oklahoma his adoptive home state. Constant stress led him to escape NYC and bicycle across America, including Route 66. His memoir West of Wheeling: How I Quit My Job, Broke the Law & Biked to a Better Life documents the journey. His tourism career began on red double-decker buses in New York City, and he now leads a team of seven guides across three Oklahoma cities.
