Experience Family Fun Day at the Cherokee Strip Museum and Rose Hill School in Perry on Saturday, August 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring the whole family to enjoy this free admission day full of cake walks, apple peeling, sack races, rope making demonstrations, gunfights, and live blacksmithing demonstrations. From the Collection: American Indian Art and Photographs exhibit closes

The Cherokee Strip Museum will showcase American Indian Art and Photographs through the month of September 2021. Included in the exhibit are original paintings from Native artists Woody Big Bow and Randall Owen Moore, as well as an original painting by Ethel Johnston, wife of former Oklahoma Governor Henry S. Johnston. Many photographs of tribal leaders taken by well-known photographers and several American Indian artifacts are also on display.

On October 9, the Cherokee Strip Museum and Rose Hill School will host a “women’s day” demonstration focused on fashion developments of the 1850s and 1860s. Resident schoolmarm and historical seamstress Melissa Grice will be exploring the innovations in women’s fashion early in the Victorian era that made wearing voluminous elegant dresses more tolerable for women.
