Joseph A. Callaway gained international recognition as a director, critic, and Shakespearean actor. Rosella Hightower is one of five American Indian prima ballerinas depicted in Mike Larsen’s mural Flight of Spirit, on display in the State Capitol. A world-renowned ballerina of Choctaw descent, Hightower performed with several companies and founded the Center for Classical Dance in Cannes, France.

Note: Although the marker text refers to Rosella Hightower as Chickasaw, available primary and secondary sources suggest that she was of Choctaw descent.
